Creating a new storage unit
A storage unit is a unit of storage that can store pharmaceuticals at a specific temperature range. Examples of a storage unit are:
ambient environment
refrigerator
freezer
When you create a storage unit, you configure a temperature profile; the upper and lower temperature boundaries you want the storage unit to stay within and the time limit for how long the temperature is permitted to go outside the boundaries. If the temperature goes outside the temperature boundaries for a longer time than is configured, an excursion is registered, and an alert message is sent to the site contact. [correct?]
Note
Before creating a new storage unit, ensure the following have already been created:
location of site
site contact - user who will receive alerts for all storage units at this site.
trial relevant for the site
site the storage unit is located in
In the Clinical Storage Monitoring page, click Create and click New storage.
The Add new storage page appears.
To set the site for the storage unit, in the Site list, click the site ID.
To set the name for the storage unit, in the Name box, type a name.
To configure the type of storage unit, in the Type list, select the storage type:
FRIDGE
FREEZER
AMBIENT
To set the temperature profile for the storage unit, in the Temperature profile area, do the following:
Note
Temperature profiles define the range of temperature allowed and the amount of time the temperature is allowed to go outside the temperature range before an excursion is registered.
If the temperature profile you want is not in the list, and you need to create a new temperature profile, do the following:
Click +Add new.
The Add new temperature profile page appears.
To set a name for the temperature profile, in the Name box, type the name.
To set the upper boundary of the temperature profile, in the Upper boundary area, do the following:
To set the upper boundary temperature of the temperature profile, in the Temperature (°C) box, type the upper boundary temperature, in degrees Celsius.
Note
If the temperature goes above this for a longer time than is configured in the Time list below, an excursion is registered.
To set the amount of time the temperature is allowed to go above the upper boundary configured above, in the Time list, click to select the amount of time.
Note
If the temperature goes above the upper boundary for a longer time than is configured here, an excursion is registered.
To set the lower boundary of the temperature profile, in the Lower boundary area, do the following:
To set the lower boundary temperature of the temperature profile, in the Temperature (°C) box, type the lower boundary temperature, in degrees Celsius.
Note
If the temperature goes below this for a longer time than is configured in the Time list below, an excursion is registered.
To set the amount of time the temperature is allowed to go below the upper boundary configured above, in the Time list, click to select the amount of time.
Note
If the temperature goes below the lower boundary for a longer time than is configured here, an excursion is registered.
Click Create.
The temperature profile is created.
In the Temperature profile list, click to select the temperature profile.
To set the device to connect to the storage, in the Logger box, type the Device ID.
To set the users who should receive notifications of excursions, in the Assign contacts list, click to select the users.
Click Create.
The storage unit is created.
